CSL entered the Harry Rosen preview room to find it awash in pastels, beautiful suits, casual looks and bespoke pieces. Models were dressed in everything from business attire to casual Saturday barbecue clothing. A powder blue vespa stood in the centre of the room where pocket scarves and leather shoes sprouted from green turf. The colours were happy and refreshing – a sort of perpetual summer.
For spring 2010 the experts at Harry Rosen forecasted three major trends:
1. Suits
The lines are blurred between classic and modern and suits are worn regardless of age. The difference today is the fresh colours, updated slanted packets, spread collars, “something with guts to it, a presence.”
Suit Brands: Canali, Ermenegildo Zegna
Neckwear, Shirt Brands: Etro, Eton, Robert Graham
2. Sportswear
Subdivided into West coast and Ivy League the look is all about getting the right fit. These are trimmer clothes that embrace colour and look to American and English prep school style or California chic. “Getting the right jeans is as important as getting the right suit,” advises the experts at Harry Rosen.
Collegiate Style Brands: Fred Perry, Cantebury of New Zealand, Gant Rugger, Lacoste
West Coast Style Brands: BOSS Orange, Arnold Zimberg, Ted Baker, Parajumpers
3. Must Have The (Navy) Sports Jacket
Shown with everything from classic double breasted suits to sportswear. The experts consider this jacket “the bridge piece in any wardrobe this season.”
Navy Sports Jacket Brands: BOSS Black, Corneliani
Perhaps best of all was the scoop about the new Harry Rosen store in Calgary's Core coming in the Fall of 2010 which will feature such brands as Tom Ford.
