Effortless hair, golden skin, classic eyes and flawless nails for all your summer moods.

MERMAID WAVES

Today’s beach waves are smoother and shinier than a true surfer girl’s briny textured hair. The easiest way to get quick waves straight from the shower is by using a texturizing shampoo, then spritzing a salt spray onto damp hair and finally braiding hair to set the product.  When hair is dry, add hair oil or glossing spray to add back moisture and create a shiny finish.

Toolkit: Playa Endless Summer Spray, Drybar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray, Aerin Large Gold Comb.

BRONZED GODDESS

The days of the overdone tan are over, instead celebs and makeup artists are opting for a more healthy, natural glow.

If you want a longer lasting bronzed look, begin by thoroughly exfoliating skin and use a mousse or water-based self tanner over several days, allowing it to fade before reapplying which will help achieve a more even tan. To enhance your glow, and reflect the sunlight, use an illuminator which can be swept over the face for a pearlized finish. All over boosting drops can also be applied to moisturize and achieve a radiant finish.

QUICK FLAWESS NAILS

Mimic garden flowers with abstract, eye-catching painted lines on blush nails — perfect for weddings and work. Michael Costello’s dreamlike secret garden draped in soft organza and flashes of sparkle evoked all the romance of the season. Julie Kandalec for essie played into his ethereal vision with blush colours accentuated with floral nail art. Start with a basecoat, then add two coasts of blush or skintone colour.  Using a thin brush, draw on squiggly curved lines to mimic petals with a darker pink or metallic gold, grouping them slightly at the nailbed. Finish with a topcoat.

Toolkit: Dior nail lacquer, Sally Hansen nail polish.

THE NEW CATEYE

From an uber-thick feline eye to a smudgy flick, eyeliner is your key to achieving the sultry look of summer. That signature Bardot winged eye is sweet yet sensual. This season, while designers like Theyskens kept it classic, others updated the look from its 60s heyday with myriad new interpretations. At Oscar de la Renta two-tones (think thin lines of black and ice blue) instead of one made for twice the fun, while double wings in classic black reigned at Monse, and a thick accentuated flick (halfway between a smoky eye and cat eye) made a splash at Jason Wu. For the timeless cat eye — sweep a bold stripe of liquid eyeliner along your upper lash line. From there you can experiment with the flick — adding colour, thickness (just use a brush and shadow to create a smudgy flick) or extra lines.

Toolkit: Tarte Sex Kitten Liquid Liner, $24.00. Too Faced Glitter POP! Peel-Off Eyeliner, $24.00. Tom Ford Eye Shadow Blend Brush, $68.00. Anastasia Beverly Hills Eye Shadow Singles, $16.00.
