ITS A JUNGLE
This classic feline print hints at the right kind of edgy attitude: a little bit of rebellion mixed with mischievousness. Wear with pops of red to break up the look, as well as gold accessories that accentuate this roaring staple.
COLOUR PLAID
A renewed punk edge has taken traditional tartan to new heights (think Cher Horowitz). At Versace, yellow, blue and purple jewel tones injected new life into the suit, and even the maxi coat was reconstructed with the bright fabric. Michael Kors mixed things up by playing with florals and colourful plaid together, evoking a quirky sensibility.
HOT PINK
Move over millennial pink- it’s time for bright magenta to have her turn in the spotlight. The all round flattering hue was seen in everything from
dresses, to sweaters and full suiting. This is one of the easiest trends to pull off and will add a pop of cheery positivity during the sometimes bleak cold months.
AIN’T SHE SWEET
The romantic Victorian beauty that has prevailed over the last several fall collections remains strong this year. Think lace detail, high ruffled collars and cinched waists that scream 19th century. Add on leather accessories: wide belts, lace up boots, and handbags to set off this delicate look, or throw on a military style blazer to wear to work.
BLOOMS TALE
From delicate bouquets à la Michael Kors to bold exaggerated graphic floral seen at Valentino, this year there is a decidedly artistic feel to this pattern. Don’t think that head-to-toe floral is passé or reserved for your grandma’s china – think a romantic bent paired with Victorian lace up leather booties or a wide belt to offset the overtly feminine vibe.
BIG & BOLD
Who doesn’t love to feel snugly when temperatures drop? So, we can all be thankful that proportions were stretched to new heights (or, is it width) with voluminous outerwear. While Max Mara and Stella McCartney stuck to classic and effortless, designers like Marc Jacobs played with football size shoulders that went to the extreme.
SAVILLE ROW
You’ll be hearing this word a lot come autumn. So, what exactly is Saville row? Referring to a street in Mayfair London known for its meticulous tailoring for men’s suiting, the term has now expanded to include well constructed clothing including women’s wear. At YSL, blazers were worn over edgy leather shorts, while the key piece of the season, polished outerwear, could be seen at Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein.
