Get back down to earth this summer with practical and pretty accessories that will make you love getting your hands dirty.

SMALL SPACE Even if you’re cramped for space, a bright window sill will do for growing herbs and cherry tomatoes. Containers filled with flowers (like lavender) can be a space saver on apartment patios. Don’t forget to go vertical with your planting for additional space.

LOTS OF SPACE Use pavers to make raised beds where you can plant rows of vegetables, fruits and herbs from seed. Intersperse rows with flowers so that you can arrange cut-flower bouquets while caring for plants throughout the summer.

TIP At this time of year cheery bouquets are simple to assemble from your garden, local markets or u-pick farms.
