Matthew Nugan of Nugan Estate in Australia, visits Calgary for an evening of beautiful bites and sensational wine

Located in Australia’s McLaren Vale region, the family owned Nugan Estate, began as a fruit and vegetable business by Nugan’s Spanish grandfather before producing fruit juices and eventually wine. The 590 hectares of estate grown grapes in Australia’s finestwine growing regions have made the label one of Australia’s Top 20 Wine Exporters. CSL sat down for dinner at q Haute Cuisine in Calgary showcasing Nugan Estate’s finest selections (including the 2007 kln vineyard botrytis semillon). The showstopper of the evening was the Nugan Estate Matriarch McLaren Vale Shiraz 2006, a truly elegant silky smooth wine. A ruby garnet colour in the glass gives way to rich dark cherry fruit, chocolate overtones with soft hints of oak.
