These small wonders are chock full of bold flavor. Try one of CSL’s four easy alternatives. The sky’s the limit!

1/ Avocado and Sriracha
Creamy avocado paired with a pinch of salt, freshly cracked and spicy sriracha and sesame seeds takes avocado toast to new heights.

2/ Boiled Egg with Fresh Cracked Pepper
A simple, medium boiled egg is a beautiful thing. Top with fragrant cracked pepper for a hint of heat.

3/ Cucumber and Herbed Ricotta
Take fresh ricotta, add freshly chopped mint, lemon zest and salt with a drizzle of olive oil, followed by thin slices of crisp cucumber for a refreshing bite.

4/ Heirloom Tomato and Aged Cheddar
Slice sharp cheddar and layer a few pieces with a few mini heirloom tomatoes – a southern favourite.

FINGER FOOD

With hygge now the term du jour, it didn’t take long before the Scandi-culinary equivalent stepped into the picture.  Smørrebrød, are a buffet-style assortment of hot and cold dishes served as open face sandwiches (on slices of bread) in Denmark. With their colourful, fun and endless possibilities of variety, these handheld snacks are bound to satisfy a crowd.

But first…it’s all about the bread

> Sliced sourdough rye bread is the classic vehicle for toppings

> Multigrain and whole grain French bread add texture

Stick with tradition

> As a general rule, pickled, smoked and cured fish are festive toppers

> Mørbradbøf: pork tenderloin with sauteed onion and a creamy mushroom sauce

> Tartarmad: Beef tartare with grated horseradish

> Stjerneskud: steamed and battered fish, topped with shrimp, mayonnaise, caviar and lemon served on white bread
